The grading system in Leung Ting WingTsun
The 12 student grades
The division into 12 student grades only applies outside Hong Kong. Student grades learn the 1st and 2nd forms (Siu-Nim-Tau
and Cham-Kiu) as well as their application in Chi-Sao ("sticking arms exercise") and free-fighting (Lat-Sao). A 10th student
grade (SG) or Pre-Primary Level is qualified to carry out limited instruction duties if he has passed the additional examination
for Assistant Instructor.
1st student grade in WingTsun
Theory and role-play: visual pre-fight phase – a fight avoided is a fight won
Form training: Siu-Nim-Tau 1/2 –
sets 1-3
Chi-Sao and classical programmes: -
Self-defence and Lat-Sao: against an orthodox stance – Lap/punch
to the head, kidney; training with focus mitts, Bong-Gerk
2nd student grade in WingTsun
Theory and role-play: verbal pre-fight phase – effects of adrenalin, attack is the best defence

Form training: Chum-Kiu 2/3
Chi-Sao and classical

Self-defence and Lat-Sao: back-up – defence and sparring, against roundhouse
